Lawang Sewu means Thousands of Doors. It’s very old building with a lot of doors there (less than a thousand, but as it has a huge number of doors, then it easy to say Thousands of Doors). Was built in early 20th century by Dutch Colonial in Semarang, Central Java. It had been used by the Indonesian Train operator’s (PJKA, Perusahaan Jawatan Kereta Api) office and Indonesian Military Forces (Central Java area), and the last usage was 14 years ago in 1994. The interesting thing is, it has an underground alley and also underground jail. I’m pretty sure, if the local government fix and repaint the building, it will attract more tourist there.
